Exploiting People With Mental Illnesses

I wrote this poem recently when I found myself confronted with having to deal with a sociopath while trying to recover from a bipolar cycle. As I lay black like a wounded crow, they homed in on me when I was at my most vulnerable. I won’t bore you with the details, except to say it was a classic example of how I can be exploited through my desire to make amends for wrongs and natural willingness to do whatever it takes to make up for the upheaval me and my bipolar disorder can cause others. The exploitation of people with serious mental health issues is something I don’t often hear discussed, so I’ll make this small contribution.

Get away

Get away from

Get away from me now

I can smell

I can smell you

I can smell you from here

To the acid

To the acid bath

To the acid bath now

My stomach burns

And so it yearns

To break you down

What happens

What happens

To people like you

You take love

You take love to

You steal love to your tomb

Your emotion

Is an ocean

Of deadness and squall

Your emotion

Is an ocean

Of deadness and squall

I know you

I know you

You won’t change or relent

It is in you

Like muscle sinew

Forged to your bone

It is hardwired

That you kill things

Kill pristine things

With no conscience at all

You look at

What to transact

You think never to give

You exact things

And extract things

From your playthings

In your matrix

You’ll never know me

But I know you

I’ve met you before

Your emotion

Is an ocean

Of deadness and squall

Your emotion

Is an ocean

Of deadness and squall

I take my axe Dear

I take my axe Dear

It’s in your neck Dear

I take you down, no fear

Your death has come Dear

And now it’s gone Dear

It marks the end of all fear

Your emotion

was an ocean

Of deadness and squall

Despite your carnage

You were always,

You were always,

Ever

So

Small.
